Storm doors have a lot of screws holding the frame in place, and the stress is distributed. The major caveat is to drill pilot holes. Some manufacturer's vinyl trim is a bit sketchy and is pretty easy to break - brittle, almost. That stuff I wouldn't want to attach a storm door to. You can also build up the trim profile from Azek and applied PVC The storm doors I've seen have a metal frame around the perimeter of the door that is screwed to the wood trim/frame of the door. Pull the screws and the door comes off. If the screw holes are noticeable, fill with spackle or you can crush them with a nail set to blend them into rough hewn trim, and repaint the trim/frame. I'm replacing a storm door and i've found this lovely surprise (in picture) left behind it. I'd rather not install the new storm door onto this, and am hoping for some advice. What is this "Trim" and what is it called? How is it attached? How can i take it off and replace it? (Is it under the vinyl siding?) Thank you for your time fellas.
